Continued Professional Development

As stated under the National Law, which governs the operations of the National Boards and AHPRA, all registered health practitioners must undertake CPD.

The registration standard set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has minimum requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) for ALL enrolled nurses, registered nurses and midwives in full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid practice, and even those on leave from work, for example, those on maternity leave.

The standard also applies to enrolled nurses, registered nurses and midwives who are on leave from work, e.g. maternity leave or long service leave.

To meet this registration standard, you must complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD per registration period. Pro rata CPD hours apply if you have held registration for less than 12 months.
